 Neil is an accredited counter fraud specialist with over 30 years’ experience in helping senior managers take an ethical and proactive risk-based approach to managing risk. He has worked in a variety of industries across the private and public sectors, including a number of multinational FTSE 100 companies. Importantly, his quite unique experience covers all three lines of defence. This puts Neil in the position of being able to not only identify areas for improvement in an organisation but also to help implement necessary pragmatic changes.

Neil started his career as a fraud and financial investigator for a government department before setting up and leading multi-disciplinary teams to investigate complex organised economic crime including: fraud, bribery and corruption and money laundering. Latterly Neil was an Audit Manager within Centrica’s Group Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk function, focusing on legal and regulatory compliance as well as People and Procurement risks. Neil also spent 4 years in a financial management role within Centrica’s global commodity trading business. 

Neil has also acted as a policy advisor to UK government including the Ministry of Justice in the development of Recovery of Defence Costs Orders in complex or high cost criminal cases.

Impact and outcomes

Neil consistently applies his commercial and economic crime experience to develop pragmatic and efficient solutions in the specialist field of of internal audit, risk, and internal controls. Having conducted investigations into complex organised criminal networks his understanding of how criminals operate provides him with a different perspective on how criminals target individuals and organisations enabling him to provide unique solutions for how they can respond to that risk.
