Whistleblowing & Cover-ups in the Digital Age

PANEL SUMMARY: This panel discussion is centred around 3 co-designed vignettes. Vignettes 1A/B cover topics related to digital identity, online child exploitation, therapist verification, and abusing positions of trust. Vignette 1A was co-created by an anonymous young person with lived experience. Vignette 2 covers topics related to marketing ethics for digital mental health providers, and issues around bypassing real efficacy validation, the use of cookies and more. Vignette 3 covers issues related to suicide risk monitoring and the potentially unethical/harmful misuse of real-time behavioural data.

GAVIN BURTON, identity consultant and trainer with Beruku Identity

Gavin served for over 25 years as a detective in the Metropolitan Police. He has extensive multi agency partnership experience and was the operational lead of the Amberhill identity team collating and sharing false identity intelligence in order to prevent fraud and safeguard vulnerable members of society. After leaving the police he worked in the identity validation industry with both physical and digital identity providers. He currently works as an identity consultant and trainer with Beruku Identity, and is a founding member of the UK Identity Fraud Advisory (UKIFA) a social enterprise group to help victims of identity fraud and to help businesses better identify false identity documents.

Lt. John Pizzuro, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Commander (Ret)

Lt. John Pizzuro just recently retired after 25 years 22 of which were conducting criminal investigations, with the New Jersey State Police. John managed and lead investigations involving Homicide, Organized Crime, Corruption, Fraud and Drug Trafficking Organizations to name a few. In John’s last role he spent 6 years as the Commander of the NJ Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. John currently is self-employed as a Strategic & Business Development Consultant for Magnet Forensics & Grayshift. He has also created framework for other countries to investigate CSAM, through the International Center of Missing & Exploited Children. John has developed programs about Human Behavior and Neuroscience and how it applies to real life behavior. John speaks frequently regarding online grooming, child exploitation, and how technology has impacted our children and their behavior. John Pizzuro is certified as a Master Neuro Linguistic Practitioner and has an M.A. in Human Resource Development and Training.


Geoff Revill - BSc (Hons) Computer Science, Safe Space One Ltd

Geoff leads an awesome team at Safe Space One Ltd setting out to revolutionise online delivery of mental health consultations and therapy. He’s a digital entrepreneur with a strong system architecture and cyber security background and a long history as a trust and privacy advocate in digital systems design. An innovation tech award winner from the Home Office for making crowded places safer post the Manchester bomb and a product leader who’s operated in Silicon Valley leading 300+ software developers. Daniel Condliffe, co-founder, Paranimo

Dan is co-founder of mental health tech start up Paranimo. Dan suffered with mental health issues during his PhD and decided to move out of academia and into entrepreneurship to try and help others get mental health support.

Paranimo is a mental health technology company that aims to use data to match people to the right support and help them take control of their mental health. They are particularly focused on helping charities provide support to vulnerable people in a fast and cost effective way.

 

Matt Oon, founder and CEO of Acceset

Acceset, a digital mental health company. His past works include a mental health research project funded by Wellcome Trust Foundation and implementing tech-based mental health solutions funded by Tote Board. He is currently developing a digital protocol for online peer support together with Hogan Lovells. In addition, he is also preparing a research study to look at the efficacy of digital peer support intervention in partnership with National University of Singapore N.1 Institute of Health.
